effects in new brunswick

No income. No place to go. No relief. These are the realities of the homeless and immigrants in New Brunswick, New Jersey during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an investigative video report by the Rutgers student I-Team about the effects of COVID-19 on the New Brunswick immigrant and homeless population. The team found that the City of New Brunswick responded late to the crisis affecting the most vulnerable. Those populations have had to turn to their neighbors in the community or online to get the help they need.

"The criminalization of homelessness has been amplified to the point that it's just illegal now to be homeless," said Walter Herres, the CEO and founder of Supporting Homeless Innovatively Loving Others (SHILO)

This investigative project was a collaborative effort led by Professor Juan Gonzalez
